THE LIE ESSAY
In the story The Lie by Kurt Vonnegut a main character named Eli is created. Eli is a young boy who has been trying to get into the best private school of America. Have you ever lied to your parents? Well in the story Eli lied to his parents and got caught. You should always tell your parents the truth otherwise you could get into even more trouble for not telling them.
First, the mode of literature is irony. Irony starts out by beginning with chaos. After that the conflict starts to get serious which is sanity vs. insanity. That happens when Eli gets his letter and lies to his parents about it. It ends in death or insanity and the purpose of Irony is to realize life is not so bad. Irony occurs when Eli’s mother holds her son’s feelings foremost, while his father would sacrifice him to the image of the Remenzel family. It ended in insanity.
Next, there were some symbols in the story that were important in the story. One symbol is the letter which symbols recognition of admittance or not. Another symbol is school which is something his dad wants which is his dads ambition. Other symbols are Eli’s test which is his worth. Finally, the last symbol that was in the story is that Eli’s plans for his room were his mothers focus.
Finally, this was a good story for people to learn that lying is not the right thing to do. They should also have learned that you will get in more trouble if you lie about something and they find out rather than telling their parents the truth in the beginning. The author was trying to teach you that you should always tell your parents the truth and how lying is not the right thing to do.
