SPEAK ESSAY
It is a Saturday night and Claire is going to one of those Saturday night parties where you just hang out. Well her friends don't tell her that there is going to be drinking and other bad things happening at the party. As she arrives to the party she sees bad things already happening and people drinking and already drunk. She is put into peer pressure as soon as she gets there because everyone is telling her to stay and drink with them. So she thought she would look cool if she stayed. In the book speak Melinda is in a situation like this and gets raped by a drunk kid who was at the party. Melinda calls the cops and they took care of the party but everyone knows it was Melinda who called the police. Melinda is put in a lot of pressure at this point and does not know how to get out of it.
Melinda's life has really changed after just this situation and being put in all that peer pressure. People realize that she has been different at school and has not been talking as much and that has to do with the title SPEAK. So even though Melinda had all this pressure on her she still had the power to say no so it is her fault too.
Now, Melinda is a lonely person at school that nobody wants to be friends with because of her calling the police and leaving the party. Other people that are nice and well behaved do not want to become friends with her because she has a bad repetition for them. Nobody wants to be along in life and do everything by themselves and not have anyone to talk to at school. Would you want to live your life like that? Well after this peer pressure situation Melinda’s life has totally changed and now she has no friends and no one wants to even talk to her. All she wants is a friend right now so she doesn’t feel or look stupid.
Finally, throughout the story people should see that everyone is put into peer pressure. Being put into peer pressure could happen anywhere at any time so you want to be aware. We would not want to live a life like Melinda right now so why start the drama and become friends with the wrong people? Reading Speak is a great example of peer pressure and you should make sure you are making the right decisions throughout life!
